Technical SEO
Part of SEO Services
In short
Technical SEO is the engineering work that determines whether a search engine can crawl, render, index and serve a page at all. Offsage audits the crawl and index layer — canonicals, redirects, sitemaps, rendered HTML, Core Web Vitals — and fixes issues in the codebase rather than patching symptoms. A full technical SEO audit starts at $1,500.
Key takeaways
- No ranking strategy survives a page that cannot be crawled or indexed.
- The most common defects are not exotic: wrong canonicals, redirect chains, client-rendered content missing from source HTML, and duplicate parameterised URLs.
- Fixes are applied in the codebase, so they stay fixed — not in a plugin that regresses on the next deploy.
- Core Web Vitals are treated as an engineering constraint with a measurable budget, not a quarterly audit checkbox.

How this works
A technical audit begins with a full crawl compared against what the search engine actually has indexed. The gap between those two lists is the work. Typical findings are canonical tags pointing at redirects, sitemaps listing URLs that 404, pagination that creates infinite crawl paths, and JavaScript routes where meaningful content exists only after hydration and therefore never reaches the index.
Offsage implements the fixes rather than handing over a document. Because the team builds on Next.js, React and PostgreSQL daily, rendering strategy, caching, image pipelines and structured data are addressed at the framework level — server-rendered content where it matters, correct `hreflang` and canonical logic, real Core Web Vitals budgets enforced in the build.
The audit also produces a permanent artefact: a prioritised backlog with expected impact, plus regression tests where the defect class supports one. The point is that the same class of bug does not return silently three deploys later.
What this covers
- Full-site crawl, index coverage analysis and crawl-budget review
- Canonical, hreflang and trailing-slash consistency across the whole URL surface
- Redirect chain and 404 elimination, including legacy URL mapping
- JavaScript rendering review: rendered HTML versus source HTML comparison
- Core Web Vitals diagnosis and engineering-level remediation (LCP, INP, CLS)
- Sitemap generation and robots.txt correctness
- Structured data implementation and validation
- Regression coverage for defects that recur across deployments
Typical stack
- Google Search Console
- Bing Webmaster Tools
- Lighthouse
- Next.js
- Playwright
- Schema.org

Questions on technical seo
For implementation, yes — a repository or staging environment is required. For the audit alone, read-only access to the live site plus Search Console is enough. Many clients start with the audit and hand the prioritised backlog to their own engineers.
A technical audit covers only the crawl, render, index and performance layer. A broader SEO audit also covers keyword-to-URL mapping, content quality, internal linking intent and competitive structure. Offsage runs both, and the technical layer always goes first because it constrains everything else.
It can be. Search engines render JavaScript, but rendering is queued and budgeted, so client-rendered content may be indexed late or inconsistently. The usual fix is server-rendering or static-generating the routes that need to rank while keeping the application shell interactive. Offsage builds this way by default.
Yes. Most technical engagements are on inherited codebases. The audit is intentionally framework-agnostic; the remediation is prioritised so the highest-impact fixes land first regardless of how the site is built.
